Email and Microsoft Office communication in Office Community

 Open Office is an award winning Open Source productivity suite. It is used in big corporations, public authorities and international institutions around the world. Open Office offers great benefits over traditional office applications like Office, Lotus Domino and Outlook. However, there are limitations of Open Office and we will discuss those here.

There is very limited file sharing feature - You can read email in Open Office but not in any other application. This is because the mail functionality is built in to the application so you cannot add any third party applications to it. Also, since email is synchronized between Outlook and Open Office you can read your email in Outlook and send it to the application for editing in Open Office.

Auto-saving of email in offline folder - There is no auto-saving feature in Outlook. When you save an email in Outlook it will be stored into the default email account and not in the in-box folder of your user profile. Hence, any changes to the email content are not saved in the user profile and will not be available when you save an email in the inbox.

Limited calendar and contact management - The calendar and contact management features of Office Community are not present in Open Office. It does not have an integrated address book and will not automatically lock your Inbox. There is no way to search multiple calendars in one application. The same is true about contacts. You can only list your email addresses in a specific outlook group but not in all the groups.

Limited formatting capabilities - The file formats supported by 오피커뮤니티  are not the same as those supported by Microsoft Office. Open Office can export to PDF, JPEG and several other formats. On the other hand, Microsoft Office applications cannot be directly exported to certain files like PDF. PDF export works in Outlook and this is one of the biggest drawbacks of this feature. One has to either download and install third party tools to view PDF files or use the preview option of Microsoft Office email to view files in PDF format.

These are some of the major features that can make emailing in Office Community a little inconvenient. But these features are being worked on to make it a better service. It is estimated that these changes will be deployed in the next few months and will be available to all users by the end of the year 2009.
